TBR Intervention #4

TBR Intervention Challenge time! That moment when we get to organize our huge To Be Read piles and actually read those books we've been wanting to (or been supposed to) for the longest time! The challenge is hosted by April @ Books4Juliet, Dani @ Refracted Light and Ayanami @ Whatever You Can Still Betray, and it's hosted every Saturday, though you're free to join every two weeks if that's more convenient for you. As always, do join us! Here's the rules:

1. Post the book(s) you committed to read in your last TBR Intervention post and tell us something about it. Did you finish it? Did you enjoy it or not? Post the link to your review (if you have one).
2. Post a book that you want to read and already own. Pick something that has been sitting on your shelf for too long now (6 months or longer). Commit to read the book in the next couple of days or week.
3. Grab the TBR Intervention Button and post it on your blog sidebar so you will be constantly reminded of the challenge, making it easier for you to commit. This will also encourage other readers/bloggers/visitors to join the challenge.
4. Add the link to your post in the Linky below and make sure to visit the other blogs. Comment, encourage, and spread the love to our fellow readers.

And here's how I did this week:
  • Last Week's TBR IC: Partial success!

I wanted to read Falling Under, and I did it in a really short time - it's a fast read! I enjoyed it, for the most part, but you can see the why and why nots in the review here (yay! I posted it ahead of time this week!)

The other book I had committed to was The Whole Truth. I have to shamefully admit that I picked it up, reached the 50% mark by Thursday... and gave up. It turned out to be something completely unexpected, and while it's not bad writing by any means, I'm still looking for "the point". I'm sure the plot is there, somewhere, but right now I'm missing it. I guess I'll try again later, for a second round, since I did say I'd read it but...

  •  This Week's TBR IC:

This week, I'm going to read  Boots for the Gentleman, a title I got from Netgalley ages ago and still haven't gotten around to... Which is a shame, really, because it's a story I'm really looking forward to! Faery princes and power plays at the palace, and a love story to boot. I'll definitely read it this time!

And that's it. How about you? What's your challenge?

  1. Well congrats on finishing Falling Under! :) I'm sorry The Whole Truth wasn't quite what you were expecting.

Is Boots for the Gentleman a novel? Or more like an illustrated novel/manga? Also is it kinda Steampunkish? Looks interesting... :)

  2. Hi Dani!

Yep, Boots for the Gentleman is a novel. It's from Dreamspinner Press, and some of their covers have manga-like design, but it's not illustrated or anything. There must be something Steampunkish in there, because the series it belongs to is called "Steamcraft and Sorcery", but looking at the blurb in GoodReads I'm not too sure what it'll be. I can't wait to find out!

  3. When I saw the cover of Boots for the Gentleman I was like O_O Bishie!!! I read the description and went: Oh. A book X_X. I really thought it was a manga!

  4. Oh yeah, I forgot... I'm only taking beginner's classes and I think I'm only at the N5 level. T_T

Anyway, GOOD LUCK IN YOUR EXAM!

  5. Hi Ron (another sapnish reviewer yay!)

I'm glad you finished Fallin Under, it's on my TBR list.
Boot for the Gentleman looks fantastic, I thought it was a manga, too!

  6. Congrats on finishing your TBR challenge this week. As for the other book, don't you wish that you could get the time back for all the books half read and not reviewed. I sure do. Best of luck this week.

  9. Interesting but so far I've never gave up a book, once I start I get curious about the end and run for it, lol

  10. I am impressed that you are still committed to reading it--I think I probably would have given up entirely.

The cover for your book for next week is very pretty.

  11. Congrats on finishing Falling Under. I have a second TBR list for books I didn't finish - I call it my Second Round TBR. LOL I like to try it at least twice just in case it was my mood that kept me from reading it. Boots looks like fun. Have a good time reading it this week!

  12. I want to read Falling Under too, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I'm sorry about The Whole Truth... I feel sad when a book ends up like that. It happens to me too, and it's really hard when you're trying to continue reading even when you're not already in the mood, so I understand when you have to set it aside for now. Maybe soon you'll find the time to get back on it.

Good luck to us this coming week. I hope it will be a better week for all of us.

    Xoxo, April

  13. Hi everyone! Thanks so much for the support!

@Ayanami: Thanks! I'll be probably in hysterics by the TRBIC time next week, but I'll try to do my best anyway!

@Steph: Yeah, I wish I could get that time back. I also wish reviews got themselves written everytime I finish a book... I'm five reviews behind my already-read-pile!

@Psiche: I don't tend to give up books either. But this time, I really couldn't find a better alternative! The second round might go better, but I have my doubts...

@Shannan: The only reason I'm still committed is because the author submitted it for review, and now I feel bad saying "I can't" after it was on my queue for two months!

@April: I thin you'll really enjoy Falling Under! The Whole Truth is definitely not a bad read, it's just too far away from the genres/style I'm comfortable with, I think. In any case... yeah: better luck to us this week!
