I know there’s going
to be a big public out there who will love this title... Unfortunately, I’m not
among them.
I’ve to say I was
really very excited about reading Ties to the Blood Moon –as you might already
know, I have this thing going on with books that address myths and folklore,
and that’s exactly what this title promised.
Then, I got
started... and instead of finding a unique take on Inuit shamanism and native
traditions, I ran straight into Twilight. Complete with love triangle (same
choice, by the way) and unexplainable insta-love case.
“Okay,” I thought. “Let’s
keep reading. It’ll eventually diverge, and I’ll get to know the characters and
such.”
I did read, but I
couldn’t connect with the characters. It wasn’t that they were underdeveloped
or anything, it was just that their actions bothered and frustrated me. Gen was
impulsive and too childish. Her aunt had the worst case ever of skeleton in the
closet with no apparent reason. William failed to make me feel much... And,
worst, I felt like I’d already read the first part of the book.
The second improved
in that it became action-packed, but it boasted the same amounts of common
sense and maturity, and I thought it still was predictable.
In my humble opinion,
Twilight fans will most likely enjoy this book. It’s just that I’m one of those
people who get their hackles raised with that particular series, which hasn’t
helped Ties to the Blood Moon case at all. Please, do take that into account if
you decide to buy and read the title!
Gah. A while ago I counted the all books in my iTunes whose titles start with the word Blood. Just start, as I was too lazy to go through them all, and this was easy, alphabetically. There were 20-something! I realize that it's a very effective word, but I'm kind of sick of it.

And when the title doesn't include the word blood, rest assured: some marketing wizard will include it on some translation (The Broken Empire series, by Mark Lawrence, ended up being The Blood trilogy in Spanish... argh!)

I mean, I'm sorry you don't like it, but I hate disliking books, and I know I have a thing against Twilight, and I worried that it'd color my review in this case... and hearing that you don't enjoy it either reassures me that, no, it's not me, and no, I wasn't unfair :)
