“Tod Hudson was a typical teenager. He liked girls, sports, food and tolerated his younger brother, Nash. In fact, he had his whole life in front of him--and due to his bean sidhe heritage, it was going to be a very long life indeed. And then the car accident occurred.Suddenly Tod's future wasn't so sure, and he had to make a choice. Life... Death... or something Between....An ebook exclusive Soul Screamers series novella.” GoodReads’ blurb
This is a short one,
standing at around 60 pages, so I’m going to keep the review short as well. Besides,
there’s not much to say, other than wallow on my Tod-love.
He’s my favorite
character in this series, so I was so happy to see his own story... I liked his
bad-boy attitude in book one, loved his determination and his drive to do what
it takes in book two, was delighted by his reaction to the whole Nash-is-a-jerk
debacle in book 3, and Reaper didn’t disappoint, not at all.
To be completely
honest, I wasn’t very surprised by Tod’s choice. It was in character for him –
which is very, very good. It also explained a lot of things about a certain
sibling’s animosity toward him, and why he’d just take it with a good-humored
smile.
I know that I’ve
already read book 4, and I’m well into book 5 as I type this, so I’m probably
cheating but who cares: if you enjoy the series, be sure to check out Reaper in
reading order. So many things will be clearer in the following books, and you’ll
have such a clear motivation by the time book 5 picks up that it’s totally
worth it!
Also, I thought I
should add: I’ve been whining about massive angst and hero complexes in Soul
Screamers. Well, the traits won’t disappear, but I think this novella is the
turning point. From Reaper on, things get much more interesting!
I have yet to read Reaper but I still want to and will try to get to it sometime soon. Tod is definitely one of my favorite characters in this series so reading more about him can only be a plus.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you enjoyed it!
If you like Tod at all, you must read this novella! Sooner rather than later... It'll help in figuring out Nash's attitude toward his brother, too. :) And it'll take you even deeper into Team Tod!
DeleteDarn it, I need to finish this series asap, especially this novella. (I've developed a bit of a crush on Tod in the two books I've read). So I only need to read book 3 and then I can get to his story. I'd basically given up on it entirely until you started reading and reviewing. You pulled me back in in no time.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're having fun with these books. Great review, Ron.
If you have "a bit" of a crush on Tod already, I guarantee you'll go to full-out starstruck lover by book 4. And book 5 will make the ordeal of getting there sooooo worth it!
DeleteGlad you're back into the series!
... Well, and I hope you'll actually enjoy them :)
